Microsorum thailandicum, often called Blue Oil Fern, is an epiphytic fern with narrow leathery fronds that show a metallic blue sheen rather than ordinary green. The colour shift is most noticeable in bright filtered light, where the surface can look almost lacquered, while the underside stays duller and more muted. It remains relatively compact, with fronds often reaching about 30 cm, and it suits mounted culture, airy fern mixes, or terrarium-style environments where humidity stays high.
Keep the substrate evenly moist but not waterlogged, maintain temperatures around 18–27 °C, and aim for humidity above 70% with good airflow. Because it is slow-growing and visually unusual even at a small size, it works best as a close-viewed collector fern rather than background greenery.
