Jatropha multifida is a shrub or small tree with deeply divided, palmate leaves and bright coral-red flower clusters, giving it a lighter, more cut-leaf silhouette than many thick-stemmed tropicals. In cultivation it commonly grows to around 2–3 m over time and develops a multi-stemmed framework that works well in large containers or warm outdoor settings. It prefers strong light from full sun to partial shade, a well-draining sandy or loamy mix, and moderate watering with some drying between applications to avoid root problems.
Temperatures around 18–29 °C suit it best, and frost is a real risk. All parts are considered toxic if ingested, so placement matters in homes with pets or children, and gloves are sensible when pruning or handling the sap as well.
