Espostoa lanata is a columnar Andean cactus wrapped in dense white wool, with grey-green stems and strong spines hidden beneath the soft-looking coat. Young plants stay more restrained, but with time the species can become a striking upright specimen with a clear architectural presence.
It comes from sunny, elevated habitats in Peru and Ecuador, so the essentials indoors are straightforward: give it the brightest possible position, a sharply draining mineral substrate, deep but infrequent watering during active growth, and a very dry winter rest. Stable warmth and strong light help keep the wool dense and the body compact, while damp soil quickly leads to rot. The hairy covering makes it look softer than it is, but the spines underneath are real. This is a long-term cactus grown mainly for vertical structure and texture.
