Disocactus ackermannii is an epiphytic cactus from Mexico with broad flattened stems and scarlet flowers that open by day along the stem margins. Indoors it develops an arching or trailing habit and can reach 60 cm or more over time, so it suits hanging containers or raised planters better than cramped upright pots.
Care differs from desert cacti: it wants bright but filtered light, a fast-draining mix loosened with bark or perlite, and regular watering once roughly the top third of the substrate has dried. Moderate to higher humidity and temperatures around 16–24 °C support steady growth, while prolonged cold or waterlogged roots quickly cause trouble. Stem cuttings are easy to root after callusing, and a mature plant with stable care and good airflow can bloom heavily each season.
