Citrus hystrix is grown as much for its leaves as for its fruit, which is unusual even among citrus. The double-lobed foliage is intensely aromatic and widely valued in Southeast Asian cooking, while the knobbly fruit adds extra scent and texture rather than lots of juice. On a compact, thorny shrub, that combination makes Citrus hystrix feel especially suited to bright kitchens and sunny indoor spots where the plant can be appreciated as both ingredient source and evergreen ornamental.
Keep it in strong direct light, use a loose citrus mix with very good drainage, and water once the upper layer has dried rather than keeping the pot constantly wet. Warmth, stable feeding, and a little extra humidity help, but sunlight is the real driver if you want dense growth and enough energy for flowering and eventual fruit set.
