Begonia pavonina is prized for the blue iridescence that can appear across its leaves when light strikes at the right angle, a structural effect linked to its adaptation to dim forest conditions rather than simple surface colour. The plant stays rhizomatous and spreading, so it works best in broad, humid setups where the foliage can be viewed close up and the shifting sheen can actually be seen. Unlike many begonias, it does not want strong light to show well; softer, filtered conditions preserve the peacock effect better than bright exposure would.
Keep temperatures cool to mild, humidity high, and the substrate airy and evenly moist, because dry air and heat quickly flatten the foliage quality.
It is a collector species for growers who enjoy subtle optical effects and can provide the stable, cloud-forest style conditions that make them visible.
