Alocasia odora 'California' is a compact selection of odora with broad quilted elephant-ear leaves, but it stays far more manageable indoors than the larger giant-growing forms often confused with it. The plant usually tops out around 1.2 – 1.5 m in good conditions, forming a single architectural clump with strong symmetry and a cleaner, more contained silhouette than macrorrhizos-type plants.
It prefers bright indirect light, warm temperatures, evenly moist but airy substrate, and steady feeding while actively growing, though the roots should never sit in stagnant water.
Compared with more delicate Alocasia, it is relatively resilient and slightly cooler tolerant, yet it still contains calcium oxalate and should be treated as toxic if chewed. Steady warmth helps.
