Alocasia chaii looks strikingly different from most species in the genus, with matte greyed-green leaves, slightly succulent texture, and raised margins that make each blade feel carved and thick rather than lush. It stays compact, usually around 40 cm tall, but the unusual colour and peltate form give it instant collector presence.
In habitat it grows on humid slopes in Sarawak, and indoors it responds best to warmth, very good airflow, and humidity high enough to keep the dense foliage from crisping. Bright indirect light suits it far better than harsh sun, which can damage the matte surface.
