Agave 'Nigra' builds a dark, compact rosette of thick, rigid leaves with a sharkskin-like surface, purple-black margins, and a stout terminal spine that sharpens the whole geometry. The plant generally sits around 50–60 cm tall and wide, staying slow and architectural rather than racing outward. Strong sun or the brightest indoor position keeps the leaf colour dense and the rosette tight.
Use a gritty, very fast-draining substrate and water deeply only after it has dried completely, with much longer intervals in cooler low-light periods. Over time it can form offsets and eventually flower once, like other agaves, but its main value in cultivation is the heavily textured foliage and clean, engineered silhouette. Offsets offer the usual route for propagation.
